If you or your loved one is suffering from a substance abuse disorder involving drugs and/or alcohol, Greenleaf has a program to help you understand and treat your addiction. Our psychiatric care unit provides intensive services for adults who are struggling with acute mental health challenges, such as hallucinations or schizophrenia. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. Combined with behavioral therapy, prescribed medications can enhance treatment by relieving withdrawal symptoms and focus patients on their recovery.

A 5-minute conversation will not suffice to understand somebody enough to give them mind-altering psychotropics/SSRIs, etc. A little more love goes a long way and I hope some much-needed changes are made to help the patients that come here. It’s about the one-of-a-kind stories that define the lives of people we all know, sharing the aching humor and the meaning that comes with a life in recovery. If you crave a medication, or regularly take it more than directed, you may have an addiction. Hallucinogenic drugs—like LSD—cause euphoria and increased sensory experiences. Treatment for children incorporates the psychiatric care they need and education, often led by on-site teachers to keep children on track with school.
Within this treatment track, clients will be challenged to face the reality of their drug or alcohol addictions, setting the stage for lasting sobriety. We work hard to help our clients identify the underlying causes that may have led to the development of their addictions, and help them learn the skills needed to successfully lead a life of sobriety. Additionally, at Greenleaf, we hold both Alcoholic Anonymous (A.A.) and Narcotics Anonymous (N.A.) groups that our clients are encouraged to participate in. The basis of our outpatient programs are to provide group therapy to adults. Clients engaged in our partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs typically stay in treatment for 2-4 weeks, depending on the specific needs of the individual. Teenagers (ages 12 to 17) and adults who pose a risk to themselves or others and need intense supervision and stabilization are eligible for Greenleaf’s inpatient treatment programs.
We also encourage our adult psychiatric clients to engage in individual and family counseling to best help them begin to heal. A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. 12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who’ve been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way.

During my 17-day stay, I encountered severe abuse and mistreatment from the nursing staff that left me physically and emotionally scarred. From the very beginning, I was subjected to unimaginable cruelty. The nurses not only punched and kicked me but also went so far as to spit in my face. On one occasion, they slammed my foot in a door, causing excruciating pain. This coercive practice made me feel helpless and trapped, adding to the overwhelming sense of fear and anxiety I was already experiencing. One of the most horrifying aspects of my stay was the behavior of Nurse Tammy. She repeatedly violated me, twisting my nipples and committing other unspeakable acts when she believed no one was watching.
